The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will resume its emergency session on Tuesday, days after the United States vetoed a resolution that included a ceasefire. Weeks later, on December 7, Alareer was killed by a strike in Shajaiya, in northern Gaza, his friend and colleague, Jehad Abusalim, confirmed to CNN. Born in Shajaiya, in the eastern part of Gaza City, he said his family was forced to relocate to the Tel-al-Hawa area of Gaza City, after their home was destroyed by Israeli bombardment during the 2014 war that also claimed his younger brother Hamada, who was 27 when he was killed.

Laila El-Haddad, a Gazan journalist and author based in Maryland, said Alareer “raised an entire generation of Palestinian writers in Gaza.”

The leaders also called for "effective measures" to be taken to protect the “innocent civilians” of Gaza being impacted by the conflict. Humanitarian aid must be delivered "unhindered" to the enclave, the leaders said.
Al-Bursh said the signs of heavy fighting were everywhere.
Israeli tanks are spread out in the northern area of the Jabalya camp, Dr. Munir Al-Bursh said.
